The poor conditions of detention centers lead to many kids suffering from medical issues. Kids as young as 1 to 17 years old are not given regular access to showers, toothbrushes, clean clothes, or beds, and are not even allowed to regularly see their family members. At least 7 children have died in immigration custody since 2018, and nothing is being done to improve the quality of care in these detention centers. For more information press here.

Families are frequently separated at the U.S.-Mexico border. Children are abandoned and beg for their parents' return after they are separated by immigration officials who make it almost impossible for the parents to track their children afterwards. Many parents are taken away from their children due to false allegations or are given the option to either continue life in the U.S. without their children or return to their home country with their children, even if they're seeking aslyum. President Trump has received backlash for his policies, however, thousands of families continue to be separated. For more information press here.

The living conditions of detention centers are unsatisfactory. People held in detention centers do not get proper medical care, religious services, access to telephones, free legal services, and library materials. There is dangerous overcrowding, extreme cold temperatures, and numerous outbreaks of flu, lice, chicken pox, and recently COVID-19. For more information press here.
